Updated October 29, 2026: Rebuilt this production-milestone article with the October 26 demonstration-operation announcement, the YOYO naming timeline and verified cabin imagery. Original publication and author are retained; unsupported cost, payback and competitor comparisons have been removed.
XPeng’s GX-based Robotaxi is now called XPENG YOYO. In its October 26 announcement, XPeng said it had obtained Guangzhou demonstration-operation qualification for L4 Robotaxis. Initial access remains invitation-based. That is a different milestone from building the first vehicle, and not a promise that anyone can book a ride anywhere.

What changed in Guangzhou?
XPeng describes the qualification as citywide demonstration-operation approval. The company says the next stage tests dispatch, pickup and exception handling as well as driving. Its Chinese release also says access will expand gradually through invitation codes.
Evidence limit: We reviewed the company releases, not the underlying authorization instrument. They do not provide a complete public booking map, operating timetable, final fare schedule or vehicle-by-vehicle safety staffing list. A broad authorization description and an actually bookable route are not interchangeable.
Production, testing and rider access: which date means what?
Swipe sideways to see the full timeline and evidence boundary.
| Date | Reported development | Do not infer |
|---|---|---|
| May 18, 2026 | First mass-produced Robotaxi rolled off the Guangzhou line. | Production is not permission to carry the public everywhere. |
| July–August 2026 | Employee testing followed by remote-test qualification on relevant Guangzhou test roads, according to the October 19 account. | Testing conditions are not a universal passenger-service entitlement. |
| October 8, 2026 | YOYO name and mini-program launch; described in a release published October 19. | Registration is not a guaranteed ride or unrestricted availability. |
| October 26, 2026 | Demonstration-operation qualification announced; exact approval date not specified. | Announcement date is not proof of immediate full commercial deployment. |
What is inside the YOYO passenger cabin?
The October 19 company account describes pre-ride air-conditioning and fragrance controls in the mini-program, comfort seating with massage and rear entertainment. The image below shows a roof-mounted rear-passenger screen; it does not establish the content, controls or equipment on every future partner vehicle.

For passengers, useful questions extend beyond screen size: how to confirm pickup, contact support, change a destination and respond if a ride stops. Check the current service instructions rather than assume that a consumer XPeng interface or another operator’s procedure is identical.
What technology was announced at the production rollout?
In its May 18 production release, XPeng identified the GX platform, four Turing chips, 3,000 TOPS of effective onboard compute and its VLA 2.0 model. It described a vision-based approach without LiDAR or high-definition maps. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent safety scores.
The same release named Amap as the first Robotaxi SDK ecosystem partner and set early 2027 as a target for fully autonomous operation without an on-site safety officer. A target is not evidence that this condition has already been reached. Computing throughput alone cannot establish reliability, service availability or regulatory permission.
Consumer assistance systems should be checked separately. See our ADAS comparison for the broader category and XPeng company guide for corporate context.
Does this mean a European YOYO service has launched?
No overseas launch follows automatically. XPeng says it is in discussions with European mobility platforms and plans to supply integrated technology to partners instead of directly running large fleets. Talks are not signed deployments, and planned revenue channels are not evidence of profitability.
For an overseas reader, the evidence to wait for is a named local partner, the actual service area, local authorization and public access terms. The broader China Robotaxi guide covers other operators; their milestones should not be attributed to YOYO.
What should a prospective rider check?
- Access: whether the invitation is valid for the account and whether the requested trip can actually be booked.
- Trip terms: pickup and drop-off points, operating hours, price, cancellation terms and any passenger restrictions shown by the service.
- Support: the current instructions for assistance, emergency contact and interrupted journeys.
This is BYDToday’s editorial checklist, not a claim that we completed a YOYO ride or independently audited its operating authorization. Fleet size, utilization, safety performance and returns remain unverified here.
Frequently asked questions
What is XPENG YOYO?
XPENG YOYO is the name of XPeng’s Robotaxi business. The company dates the naming and mini-program launch to October 8, 2026, in a release published October 19.
Can everyone book a YOYO ride in Guangzhou?
Not established. XPeng’s October 26 announcement says initial access will continue through invitation codes. Check actual booking availability and current trip terms.
Does the announcement prove YOYO is already operating without an on-site safety officer?
No. The May production release set early 2027 as a target for that operating model. This article does not verify the staffing of individual current rides.
Does the Guangzhou milestone apply to private XPeng cars?
This article concerns the Robotaxi programme. Do not treat its qualification or hardware claims as permission to use a privately owned XPeng without driver supervision; check the specific vehicle and service rules.
