BYD – BYD Crowned Champion Across All Four Chinese Auto Sales Charts as NEV Penetration Hits Historic 60%
A Historic Milestone for New Energy Vehicles
In April 2026, China’s new energy vehicle penetration rate surpassed 60% for the first time in history, marking a definitive shift from the “growth market” narrative to mainstream dominance. Against this transformative backdrop, BYD achieved an extraordinary feat by simultaneously topping four major sales charts: the April Chinese auto brand ranking, the January-April cumulative brand ranking, the April NEV group ranking, and the January-April cumulative NEV group ranking. This quadruple crown underscores BYD’s position as the undisputed leader in the world’s largest automotive market.
Sub-Brand Explosion Drives Record Numbers
BYD’s April performance was powered by impressive growth across its diversified sub-brands. The Fang Cheng Bao (Formula) brand delivered 29,138 units, representing a staggering 190.2% year-over-year increase, with the Titanium 7 DM-i contributing 17,001 units alone. The Denza brand sold 11,250 units, bolstered by the newly launched second-generation D9 MPV. Even the ultra-premium Yangwang brand recorded 264 units with 96% growth, confirming demand at the highest price points. The Dynasty and Ocean network continued to serve as the volume backbone across sedans, SUVs, and MPVs.
Overseas Expansion Reaches New Heights
BYD’s international expansion has entered an acceleration phase. In April, the company’s overseas passenger vehicle and pickup sales reached 134,500 units, a remarkable 70.9% increase year-over-year, setting a new all-time high. Models such as the Song Plus DM-i, Yuan UP, Seagull, and Dolphin each exceeded 10,000 units in overseas markets. The SHARK pickup contributed 4,500 units, demonstrating BYD’s ability to compete in previously unaddressed segments. With flash-charging stations now covering 311 cities across China and overseas factory construction advancing in Thailand, Brazil, Hungary, and Uzbekistan, BYD is building a global infrastructure to match its global ambitions.
