BYD officially launched the third-generation Yuan PLUS on May 21, 2026, with prices ranging from ¥119,900 to ¥149,900. Built on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, the compact SUV brings 800V flash charging, BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, rear-wheel drive architecture, and optional LiDAR-based autonomous driving — all at a price point that undercuts most competitors.
Flash Charging: 9 Minutes to 97%
The headline feature is BYD’s megawatt-class flash charging. At room temperature, the Yuan PLUS can charge from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes, with the critical 30%-80% window taking only 5 minutes. Even at -30°C, the pack reaches 97% in 11 minutes — a 40% improvement in low-temperature charging efficiency over the previous generation.
This charging performance, enabled by the 800V high-voltage platform and second-generation Blade Battery, essentially eliminates range anxiety for daily use. A 5-minute charge adds roughly 300km of range, making the Yuan PLUS competitive with ICE vehicles in refueling convenience.
Two battery options are available: a 57.5kWh pack delivering 540km CLTC range and a 68.5kWh pack delivering 630km CLTC range, with energy consumption as low as 11kWh per 100km — remarkably efficient for an SUV.
From Front-Wheel Drive to Rear-Wheel Drive: A Driving Upgrade
The most significant architectural change is the switch from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive, made possible by the e-Platform 3.0 Evo. Two motor options provide 200kW or 240kW, enabling a 0-100km/h time in the 5-second range. The RWD layout, combined with a five-link independent rear suspension and BYD’s DiSus-C intelligent damping system, delivers handling that belies the vehicle’s affordable price tag.
Dimensionally, the new Yuan PLUS has grown significantly: 4,665mm length (+210mm), 1,895mm width, 1,675mm height, and a 2,770mm wheelbase (+50mm). This pushes it firmly into A+ segment territory, with 750L of rear cargo space and a new 180L front trunk — total storage that rivals many mid-size SUVs.
Smart Driving for the Mass Market
BYD equips the Yuan PLUS with its God’s Eye C (天神之眼C) system as standard, supporting highway navigation pilot and full-scenario automated parking. An optional LiDAR upgrade enables God’s Eye B, which adds city-level navigation pilot — typically a feature found only on vehicles costing twice as much.
The interior adopts BYD’s “Fluid Ecosystem Cockpit” design language with a dual-spoke steering wheel, electronic column shifter, DiLink 150 intelligent cockpit, 16-speaker audio system, panoramic sunroof with 99.9% UV isolation, and a heated/cooled in-car refrigerator. BYD has packed luxury features into an entry-level price point with remarkable efficiency.
Global Relevance: The Atto Successor
The Yuan PLUS is sold overseas as the BYD Atto 3 and has been BYD’s most successful export model, with cumulative global sales exceeding 1.1 million units. The third generation’s 800V architecture and flash charging capability make it even more competitive in markets like Europe and Southeast Asia, where charging infrastructure is a key consumer concern.
With the EU imposing tariffs of 17-35% on Chinese EVs, BYD’s ability to deliver cutting-edge technology at a ¥119,900 starting price — which translates to approximately €15,000 before tariffs — gives it an enormous cost advantage even after duties. The question is not whether the Yuan PLUS will sell overseas, but whether BYD can produce enough to meet demand.
