May 2026: Incremental Recovery, 550K Target Still Distant
XPeng delivered 32,158 vehicles across 60 countries in May 2026, a 3.7% month-over-month increase from April’s 31,011 units but still below May 2025’s 33,525 units, according to Electrive’s June 1 report. January-May cumulative deliveries reached 93,693 units, down 27.4% from 129,053 units in the same period last year.
With an annual target of 550,000-600,000 units, XPeng has completed only 21-23% of its goal through five months, based on the same Electrive delivery analysis and XPeng’s previously disclosed April delivery base. The company must average about 60,600 monthly units in the remaining seven months to hit the low end of that forecast, keeping the GX launch central to its second-half recovery plan.
GX Flagship SUV: 24,863 Locked Orders in 12 Hours
The GX, XPeng’s first full-size flagship SUV, launched on May 20 at 279,800-359,800 yuan before incentives, with a limited-time entry price of 269,800 yuan for orders placed by June 30, according to Electrive. The aggressive pricing, roughly 30% below the 399,800 yuan pre-sale price, drove 24,863 non-refundable locked orders within 12 hours, with flagship variants accounting for over 80% and pure-electric versions exceeding 50% of the mix.
Deliveries are staggered: the flagship pure-electric version has a 26-30 week wait, the extended-range four-wheel-drive flagship version 14-16 weeks, and other variants 4-7 weeks, based on a Deutsche Bank estimate cited by Electrive. Deutsche Bank estimated XPeng’s total May orders at about 50,000 units, a 40% month-over-month increase, suggesting the GX launch may have catalyzed broader brand interest.

Robotaxi Milestone and Technology Roadmap
On May 18, XPeng became the first Chinese automaker to mass-produce a fully self-developed Robotaxi, rolling off the production line in Guangzhou, according to XPeng material cited by Electrive. The vehicle is based on the GX platform and shares L4-grade hardware, powered by four self-developed Turing AI chips delivering 3,000 TOPS of computing power. Pilot operations are expected to begin in the second half of 2026.
CEO He Xiaopeng said Level 5 fully autonomous driving could emerge before 2030, while XPeng’s humanoid robot is in the final stages of mass production preparation and is scheduled to begin serving as sales assistants in XPeng stores from Q1 2027. The company’s first-quarter results showed revenue of 13.03 billion yuan and a vehicle gross margin improvement to 12.1%, according to Intellectia.AI’s Q1 2026 results summary.
Global Expansion: Indonesia and Europe
XPeng acquired a 90% controlling stake in an Indonesian manufacturing entity from the Erajaya Group, establishing a Southeast Asian production base. In Europe, the company is engaged in exploratory discussions with Volkswagen Group regarding European manufacturing. The Mona SUV L03 is scheduled for European launch in July, with the GX following in October. By 2030, XPeng targets annual overseas deliveries of 1 million units.
